Advanced Planning and Scheduling Workshop
The Waterloo Manufacturing Software advanced planning and scheduling workshop provides manufacturing management teams who are new to advanced planning and scheduling the opportunity to see how the TACTIC system can be used to help solve their specific business problems when using a set of their business data.
Workshop need
Many management teams find the workshop to be an efficient and cost-effective way to quantify the specific benefits, risks, costs, and tasks associated with adding an advanced planning and scheduling capability to their businesses. They often do this prior to shopping for software.
Since advanced planning and scheduling affects almost all functions in a manufacturing company, management teams often find that the workshop allows them to quickly cover all the bases and still complete their day-to-day activities. They also appreciate the workshop because it allows them to make a small investment without the need to commit to a larger investment (e.g., replace their business system, write custom programs, add an advanced planning and scheduling system, etc.) before all their specific benefit and risk issues are addressed and an acceptable plan of action developed./p>
Workshop scope
A workshop typically requires the time of a Waterloo Manufacturing Software consultant or consulting partner for approximately five to seven days. This time often involves a number of steps that could span a period of a couple of weeks.
- Initially, a consultant will spend time on-site to interview those who might be using and supporting an advanced planning and scheduling system. Time is also spent to review what business situations (e.g., order promising) are causing problems and to help decide what data might be needed to support the system's use to better deal with the situations.
- Following the initial visits, some data will often be needed. Once the consultant receives the data, an advanced planning and scheduling computer model of the operation will be built and tested, often at a Waterloo Manufacturing Software office.
- Once testing is complete, the mockup portion of the workshop will be scheduled. The consultant will come on-site to use the TACTIC advanced planning and scheduling system and the specific operation data to demonstrate how the system might be used in day-to-day operation to better deal with problem situations. Implementation issues, and potential benefits are also typically discussed at this time.
- A workshop summary report, including appropriate implementation tasks and milestones, is delivered following the mockup portion of the workshop. The report is often helpful to prepare for and evaluate the product and service offerings of competitive software vendors prior to purchase.
